The work we do varies depending on the needs of the community we are serving. In years past, we have done projects such as painting, indoor clean-up, landscaping, basic maintenance and repair work, meal preparation and service, organization at food pantries or thrift stores, and working with children at local daycare centers or parishes. How many adults will be present? For the safety of our youth and for the good of all involved at SHINE we will have one adult present for every five youth. All of these adults are required to have completed the Archdiocese’s Safe Environment training. What are the sleeping arrangements at SHINE? We will stay at Christ the Good Shepherd on air mattresses in classrooms at the church, Monday – Saturday, returning to St. Martha on Saturday morning. You will need to provide your own air mattress/bedding. Showers will either be at a nearby high school or at Good Shepherd. What health precautions will be taken for SHINE? In a spirit of charity, we will respect the decisions of those who choose to wear a mask and those who choose to not wear a mask. In the work that we do in the community, we may be asked to wear a mask while we serve in a food bank or at the home of an infirm person. Out of charity, we will honor those requests. St. Martha will provide masks if needed. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the week. If you find yourself getting sick please communicate with our staff and we will make arrangements to have you return home. How will registration for SHINE work?
