Accounting Manager Job Description Full-Time Position
Position Description: The Accounting Manager will oversee and lead the Church’s accounting team and assist the Pastor and Business Manager in the financial care and oversight of the Church. The role requires maintaining accurate financial records and providing essential financial management support. This role reports directly to the Business Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain complete and accurate records of all church financial, employment, and business transactions, ensuring all data is correctly documented and stored.
Develop, implement, and enforce financial policies and procedures for the Church.
Balance and reconcile checking and savings accounts regularly and submit reconciliations for review.
Prepare and submit quarterly financial reports for the Finance Council.
Provide strategic input to Church leadership on long-term financial planning and budgeting.
Ensure the accuracy and submission of the monthly, quarterly and yearly payroll and sales tax forms.
Draft an annual budget for review, revisions, and adoption by church leadership.
Prepare for and cooperate fully with the annual financial audit, ensuring all requested documentation is available and accurate.
Attend and participate in all Finance Council meetings, providing financial insights and updates.
Participate in Church staff meetings and assist in administrative functions as requested by the Pastor.
Ensure robust internal controls are in place to safeguard Church assets and prevent errors or fraud.
Provide support for St Martha Catholic School as requested.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Pastor or Business Manager.
Qualifications:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited educational institution.
Successfully undergo a criminal background and credit check.
Proven leadership experience in an accounting/finance setting, preferably in a religious or non-profit organization
Experience/Skills:
Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel) and the ability to learn new accounting software quickly.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in account reconciliation and report preparation.
Excellent interpersonal skills with a shared approach to teamwork and support for church ministries.
Strong commitment to confidentiality concerning financial records related to Parish and Parishioners
