Marriage

Engaged couples are encouraged to call the parish office as soon as possible, but at least six months prior to requested wedding date. The engaged couple will schedule an appointment to meet with a priest or deacon to begin their marriage preparation. Along with meeting with the priest or deacon couples are also required to attend an additional marriage preparation program. One that is offered at St. Martha's is called the Sponsor Couple Program. After the engaged couple begins meeting with the priest or deacon they are assigned a sponsor couple.

The Sponsor couple program is a structured couple-to-couple program. A husband and wife become mentors or a sponsor couple for a couple engaged to be married.

The sponsor couple meets with an engaged couple for a series of five meetings. These meetings are usually evening meetings that last about two and half-hours and are scheduled at least one week apart. The meetings take place in the home of the sponsor couple.

We invite the engaged couple into a process of reflection and discussion by which we grow to a better understanding of how to live and love as couples committed to Christian marriage.

Love does not rejoice In what is wrong but rejoices with the truth. There is no limit to love’s forbearance, to its trust, its hope, its power to endure…
