Infant Baptism is for children from birth to 7 years of age. Preparation classes are required for the parents of children to be baptized.
These classes prepare parents and godparents for the baptism of their children. Parents are formed in the theology and significance of the baptismal liturgy.
The role of parents, godparents and family in the formation of these children is crucial and of utmost importance to the Church requiring formation of the parents. The baptism class includes preparation for the actual ceremony and a review of what will be required of parents and godparents.
Different parenting styles are also discussed, introducing the idea that parenthood is a ministry to which we bring our own special gifts.
"Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons and daughters of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission” (Catechism of the Catholic church #1213)
