Choir & Music Ministry

St. Martha's Music Ministry exists to create an atmosphere of sung prayer that ignites the faith community to participate fully in the celebration of our liturgies.

We encourage those with a talent and love of music to share their gifts to lead, support and enrich the assembly's sung prayer.

The Music Ministry is broken into the following areas:

Accompanists and Cantors

Adult Choir

Youth Choir

Life Teen Choir and Band

Accompanists and Cantors

Coordinators:      Lita Consolacion   281-360-9888

  Gayle Hogwood    281-358-6637   gayleh@stmartha.com

This Ministry is looking for musicians who are willing to provide leadership and encouragement for the full participation of our congregations in sung prayer.

Accompanists - Requirements include ability to sight-read music, knowledge of liturgy, and proficiency in support of Cantors and congregation in sung prayer. Knowledge of organ is a plus.

Cantors - Requirements include the ability to sing on pitch, knowledge of scripture and liturgy, and comfort in teaching and or reviewing new music to the congregation. Some musical background (note reading, music theory, etc.) is helpful.

Accompanists and Cantors provide support to the Masses at the 5:30pm Saturday Vigil, and 9:00am, 11:00am, and 12:45pm Sunday Masses, as well as Holy Days of Obligation, funerals and weddings.

Workshops for both accompanists and cantors are mandatory and are held quarterly.

A strong commitment and faithful attendance are asked of all who wish to sing with the Adult Choir. Prior music or choir experience is helpful, but not required. The Choir leads the sung prayer at the 11:00am Sunday Mass as well as Holy Days of Obligation and the special celebrations at Christmas and the Triduum. An annual concert is also presented.

Little Angel Choir  ( Grades K-2nd. )

Gloria Dei Choir  ( Grades 3rd - 8th )

The Youth Choir provides an opportunity for the children of our parish to come together and share their talents and love for music, while gaining a greater sense of the importance of their own active participation in the liturgy and spirit of service to God. This includes leading the congregation in sung prayer at the 9:00am Family/Children's Mass once a month during the school year and at special celebrations for the feast of Christmas, Easter, and the Masses celebrating First Holy Communion. While both choirs practice separately, they come together at liturgy to "make a joyful noise" to the Lord.

The youth in Grades 5 through 8 with good singing voices and leadership abilities are encouraged to learn to be Cantors, leading the assembly when the Choir is scheduled to sing.

All children of the parish in Grades K through 8, who love to sing, are welcome to join the Youth Choir.

Rehearsals: Thursdays during school year, except for school holidays.

Little Angel Choir (K-2nd)  3:30pm - 4:15pm

Gloria Dei Choir (3rd - 8th) 4:15pm - 5:15pm

How young people praise and worship is going
to look different, sound different, BE different!

Teens are about variety and uniqueness! We accept their differences and
invite them to find their place in the Catholic Church with Jesus!

True worship is:
*Our response to understanding who God is and how we can glorify Him
*To be transparent before the Lord.
*To encourage each of us to open up and let God reveal the areas in our lives
not pleasing to Him.
*To bring us to repentance and turn us back to God!

Rehearsal:
Monday Evenings: 7:00-8:00 PM in the Church
Sunday afternoons: Warm Up in Church 4:15 PM
